“Dion the Accordion” is a musical, interactive fairy tale created by author Cleopatra Charalambous, with music by Angelos Doukas and illustrations by Ermina Emmanouil.

The story takes place in the village of “Fteroto”, where little Dimitrakis spends his summers with his family and his grandmother, Lemoni. One summer, when Dimitrakis turned 7 years old, his grandmother Lemoni gave him a very special and precious gift of priceless value, a gift from the past. From that moment on, Dimitrakis’ life, as well as the life of the entire village, changed forever.

The wonderful musical instrument, the Accordion, was the source of inspiration for the story, as was the children’s workshop “Deon the Accordion”, created by the author with the aim of introducing and promoting the Accordion in various villages of Cyprus, within the framework of the Cultural Decentralisation Programme of the Ministry of Education. Later, Dion’s story evolved and took on a different form, resulting in the creation of this children’s musical and interactive fairy tale, “Dion the Accordion”.

During the Workshop, children will have the opportunity to listen live to Deon’s beautiful and original story, accompanied by live music, so that they can get to know and explore up close this magical instrument called the Accordion.

The fairy tale has also been published in printed form. It contains a QR code for a more complete audiovisual narration and songs, and it is offered to schools at the special price of €15 for any pupil who wishes to purchase it on the day of the storytelling session.

“Dion the Accordion” is available from selected shops, bookshops and music stores, online or directly from the author, in printed form as well as in digital form through the Read Library digital library, and also through each school where the presentation takes place.

In June 2024, it received approval permits from the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth for presentation in schools, both kindergartens and primary schools.
